New York Blood Center has received media coverage of the current Blood Emergency and Blood Drive sponsors in mid-June really stepped up to spread the word and try to encourage additional blood donations to help rebuild the inventory, but we’re not out of the woods yet. With the approaching 4th of July holiday falling mid-week, many people go on vacation or use vacation days to extend the holiday. This means that blood donations will be significantly lower. In fact, weekly blood donations are on a steady decline with 7500 last week, 6500 expected this week and just 4500 expected next week during the holiday. Types O-, B- and A- are all at critical levels.
Thank you for hosting your blood drive during the critical summer months and so close to the holiday! Blood donations at this time of year are even more precious as blood is not available to be shared across the nation for centers that have shortfalls.
Please try to encourage walk-ins, donors and those that have not returned to donate in years to step up and participate at your upcoming drive.
